How a fabrication job runs

Discuss it with our team

Tell us what you want made, what it has to do and where it is going. A photo or the measurements of what it replaces is a good start.

Design and quote

We work out how to build it and what it should be made of, and give you a quote.

Cut, fold and weld

The metal is cut, folded on our 4.2m brake press where the design calls for it, and welded with MIG, TIG or ARC.

Blast and paint

If the job needs a coating, we sandblast and paint it before it leaves.

Assemble and install

We do site installations, and can do all the work in your location to minimise downtime.

Choosing the metal

Most of the cost and most of the life of a fabricated item is decided by what it is made of.

  • Mild steels are the workhorse: strong, easy to weld and the least expensive, but they need paint or galvanising to keep rust away.
  • High tensile steels carry more load for their weight, which is why they are used in machinery and wear parts. They need more care with heat when they are welded.
  • Stainless steels resist corrosion and clean easily. See stainless and aluminium welding.
  • Aluminium is light and does not rust.

Working on your site

For every onsite job, we complete a job safety analysis (JSA) and run a daily morning toolbox meeting. When WorkSafe notification is required, we submit it online at least 24 hours before work starts, as the regulations require.

Before taking on a job, we inspect the site to confirm the requirements and ensure the work can be completed safely.

Farm and rural fabrication

On a farm, fabrication usually means yards, rails, gates and sheds. If you are planning new stockyards or a shed, see stockyards, sheds and farm equipment, and have a look at the project gallery.

Questions about fabrication

Do you design as well as build?

Yes. We will work with you throughout the entire duration of the project, from designing through the assembly and installation.

Can you install what you build?

Yes. Site installations are part of what we do, and we can do all the work in your location to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency.

What affects the price of a fabrication job?

The metal and how much of it, how much cutting, folding and welding the design needs, whether it is sandblasted and painted, and whether we install it. Contact us to get a quote.
